Kroger Competitors

Even though Kroger Company is one of the biggest retail stores in America there are still a lot more stores that offer good quality products at low prices. Here are some of the top 10 Kroger competitors out there.

Target

Target is an American retail store established in Minneapolis, Minnesota in the year 1962 firstly under the name Dayton Dry Goods Company and then later as Dayson Hudson Corporation. After 2000, the company changed its name to Target Corporation.

It is the biggest second cut-price retailer after Walmart and the eighth largest retailer in the USA with revenue of $93 billion in 2020. Therefore, Target counts as one of the main competitors of Kroger stores but is still behind Kroger in terms of total revenue.

From both of the brands, you can buy the essential items you want. However, if you are looking for products with more range of brands or products with more quality Kroger is a better option for you. With this said, the prices are relatively higher at Kroger’s stores.

Walmart

Walmart Company was founded in 1962 by Sam Walton in Rogers, Arkansas. Walmart is an American retail institution that is multinational. The corporation contains around 10556 stores in 24 countries within itself. It only held stores in the South and Lower Midwest until it expanded beyond in the early 1990s, then became the largest retailer in the United States in 1998.

Although the price range varies by the types of products, usually expenses at  Walmart are 4% lower than at Kroger. One other advantage Kroger has against Walmart’s cheaper prices is the diversity in products and brands. It is more likely to find the good you are looking for at Kroger.

Costco

On 15th September 1983, Jim Sinegal and Jeffrey Brotman established Costco Wholesale Corporation in Washington, USA. As of 2020, Costco became the fifth largest retailer around the globe and its revenue exceeded $163 billion.

Costco is better for purchasing wholesale at lower prices including electronics, and clothes alongside groceries.

Costco is a Warehouse Club, while Kroger operates as Marketplace Stores and Price-impact warehouse stores. Kroger is also taking a step into the warehouse market model too.

Meijer

Meijer is a chain supermarket throughout the Midwest, founded by Hendrik Meijer 88 years ago in Greenville, Michigan.

Meijer’s affordable prices are what make it a competitor of Kroger because Korger is much more reachable than Meijer. Meijer has 2700 stores in 35 states with a revenue of $19.5 billion.

Albertsons

Albertsons Companies is an American and centered retail store based in Boise, Idaho. It is counted as the second-largest supermarket chain in South America after Kroger with 2253 stores and 270000 employees as of 2020.

They both have similar product types, prices, and quality.

Aldi

They both have a wide range of products but the receipt will be less at the end of shopping in Aldi, especially in grocery stores.

Publix

Publix Super Markets Inc., commonly known as Publix, is a private company that belongs to the Jenkins family and its employees, which was founded by George W. Jenkins in 1930.

Kroger offers lower expenses and has more widespread locations than Publix, but they are alike in the wide range of their products.

Whole Foods Market

It is an American multinational chain supermarket that sells products without hydrogenated fats or artificial colors and flavors. It is the 10th largest retailer in the USA.
