This fantasy drama thriller has created quite the cult following, and remains one of the most stunning and confusing flicks out there. Sucker Punch is stacked with strong and beautiful women, but even includes some of your favorite actors as supporting characters.
Directed by Zack Snyder, this movie is like living in a video game while simultaneously finding your deepest feminist bone. With a star-studded cast, and some lesser known faces, there’s quite an array of actors and actresses in this dynamic flick. For fans of this movie, here are ten things you might not have known about the cast.
Emily Browning Was In A Series Of Unfortunate Events
This might surprise a lot of people, and mainly because these two characters are vastly different, and that the films are not exactly the same genre. Emily Brown, Babydoll, actually played Violet in the film adaptation of the famous series, A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring alongside Jim Carrey.
Of course, these movies were released 7 years apart, so fans of either of these flicks probably didn’t notice the connection, but now they’ll never forget it.
Jamie Chung Has A Degree In Economics
Jamie Chung, Amber, is a Korean-American who grew up in California. In 2005, she graduated from the University of California with a Bachelor’s in economics. Clearly, she followed her heart, because in the same year, she had her claim to fame for her role on MTV’s The Real World: San Diego.
Since then, Jamie has definitely been into acting, but she does her own fashion blog, called “What the Chung?”. Maybe her economics degree comes in handy for that.
Abbie Cornish Is An Australian Rapper
Better known as Sweet Pea, this beautiful gal is actually Australian. More interestingly, she’s a rapper. She even has a rap name, Dusk, and began her music career in 2000.
She was part of a hip hop group for four years, and even went on tour in 2015 with American rapper, Nas. If you miss Sweet Pea, you can go listen to some of her tracks.
Jon Hamm Has Two Golden Globes
This famous actor played the High Roller and the Doctor in this fantasy flick. While fans loved this role, Hamm actually has nearly 100 acting credits to his name. To show for his impressive career, he has 6 Golden Globe nominates and 2 wins. He won for his role in Mad Men, where he plays the leading role.
If fans need more of the High Roller in their lives, Hamm has a ton of incredible movies and shows to binge.
Jena Malone Was An Acclaimed Child Actress
Younger fans of this flick probably know this lady from the Hunger Games series in Catching Fire. However, it turns out that Sucker Punch, where she played Rocket, was far from her claim to fame. She actually had the starring role in a 1996 film, Bastard Out of Carolina, and won the Young Artist Award.
By the following year, she had starred alongside Harrison Ford, Jodie Foster, Julia Roberts, and Susan Sarandon. This actress was practically a child prodigy for acting, and there are tons of movies of hers to binge.
Oscar Isaac’s Break Out Role Was Star Wars
Although Oscar Isaac slayed his role as Blue Jones, and definitely had multiple incredible films afterwards, no one really saw this man’s name in lights until he was cast in the new Star Wars trilogy.
With a starring role as the pilot, Poe Dameron, Isaac has definitely proved himself worthy of the spotlight, and has appeared in many popular blockbuster flicks since then. There is plenty more to come from this talented and versatile actor, but we’ll always remember way back when he was the villain of Sucker Punch.
Scott Glenn Overcame Scarlet Fever In Childhood
The iconic wise man of the film, this legendary actor was no newbie to the big screen. While fans probably know his most famous flicks, they might not know that he was incredibly ill as a child. Bed-ridden for a large portion of his youth, this actor overcame illness to become the icon he is.
After graduating high school, he majored in English, became a reporter, and entered Broadway in 1965. This man went through a lot to become who he is, and fans should definitely respect his rise to fame.
Vanessa Hudgens Started In Music & Family Channel
For fans of High School Musical, it was probably shocking to see Vanessa Hudgens’s drastic chance from Gabriella Montez to Blondie within a few years. While she’s definitely made her way into some incredible films, she got her start on Family Channel.
What fans might not know, is that she also released two studio albums during her time on HSM, in 2006 and 2008, before she moved on to more acting. So, there is definitely tons of content with this brilliant and beautiful lady out there.
Carla Gugino & Oscar Isaac Sang A Duet
These two actors have very impressive careers. Carla Gugino actually had plenty of fame before her role in Sucker Punch as Dr. Vera Gorski. Oscar Isaac, a little later to the party, definitely still stole hearts as Blue Jones.
As it turns out, these two actually sang a musical duet, and their song appears in the film during the ending credits. We definitely suggest giving it a listen, as if anyone needs another reason to love these talented actors.
Emily Browning Could Have Been Bella Swan In Twilight
During production for this hit vampire series, Emily Browning was requested to audition for the role of Bella Swan. Even endorsed by the series author, Stephenie Meyer, Browning turned down the audition for personal reasons.
In 2009, a year after Twilight’s release, Browning played the lead role in a horror film, The Uninvited, and was cast for Sucker Punch that same year. While we wonder what would have happened to Browning and the series if she was Bella Swan, we’ll always love her as Babydoll.
