Not that is where it’s at! They’ll never give you up, nor will they ever let you down. And since they’re fictional and all, the chances that they’re gonna run around and hurt you is pretty much zero as well! There’s basically no reason why you shouldn’t simp for an anime character… and I’m positive there’s nowhere for you to hide from a casual rickroll. With that said, here’s our picks for the top anime characters that are truly worth simping over.
15. Erza Scarlet
Anime: Fairy Tail First up, we have Titania — the strongest female member of Fairy Tail, and one of the best red-haired waifus of all time. What makes her admirable is that she’s not just a pretty face. Far from it, actually – as Erza has taken down her fair share of powerful enemies all by herself ever since she was first introduced in the series. Simply put, she’s a highly capable wizard. And she’s one of the most valuable members of her guild. She’s also extremely hard working and patient — qualities that helped her attain the expertise she has with her countless weapons and armors.
14. Seto Kaiba
Anime: Yu-Gi-Oh! Everybody likes a redeemed villain. Unless you’re named Sylvanas Windrunner, that is. Tragically mishandled characters aside, Seto Kaiba is probably the most iconic character to have ever come out of his series. He’s a genius billionaire playboy, and a philanthropist who’s so cool that he doesn’t even flinch when he’s got guns pointed at him (or finger guns, depending what version you watch). He’s just one of those characters that grows on you – despite being an antagonist. Which really isn’t a surprise since Kaiba is pretty darn awesome. Albeit in an ironic, goofy way.
13. Nico Robin
Anime: One Piece Here we have the smartest crew member of the Strawhats — Miss All Sunday herself, Nico Robin! Well, getting the “smartest” title isn’t exactly that hard, if we stop to consider the utter lack of competition Robin has within her crew… but my point still stands. And she’s also every bit as capable as the rest of her crewmates when it comes to defending herself. She is, after all, a Devil Fruit user. And a particularly dangerous one at that, considering she can use her abilities in many different ways. What tops it all off here is just her weird (yet quirky) personality and mannerisms. They’re all pretty much reminiscent of a mysterious woman in her 40’s. I love it!
12. Satoru Gojo
Anime: Sorcery Fight Strangely enough, most white-haired anime characters just seem to give off that weird “simp for me” vibe. Satoru Gojo, for one, is an example of this unwritten rule in anime. He’s super strong, badass, good-looking, and more importantly, very charismatic. He’s a mischievous character who has a problem with authority and isn’t afraid to show it. Gojo being an instant fan favorite as soon as he appeared in the show didn’t really come off to me as a surprise, to be honest. He’s the perfect “rebel”. And he’s a profoundly cool one at that. Definitely a 10/10 on the simp-o-meter!
11. Shizuku Murasaki
Anime: Hunter X Hunter Hunter X Hunter might be known for its minimal fanservice, but that certainly ain’t stopping Hisoka from schwing-ing! For example, Shizuku is one of the few characters who managed to grab the love and adoration of fans – despite her very limited screen time. She’s more than just a vacuum girl. She’s the vacuum girl! All in all, she’s a bespectacled beauty who’s also very dangerous in a fight. Someone that would literally suck you dry if you get on her nerves…
10. Orihime Inoue
Anime: Bleach Yep, it’s everyone’s beloved healer who’s about as sweet and caring as they come. Orihime is one of the more textbook “waifu material” characters out there. She’s a kind-hearted, understanding, sympathetic, and brave woman who had gone through hell and back for her friends. Of course, Orihime’s enthusiasm to help goes up twofold when it comes to Ichigo – whom she obviously loves, but finds it hard to confess to. Orihime’s traits might be akin to that of a stereotypical “shy maiden” character. But she’s certainly more than her shyness, as she isn’t afraid to show her more decisive side at times.
9. Kaneki Ken
Anime: Tokyo Ghoul Remember what I said about white-haired characters? Yep, the same basically applies to our boy Kaneki here. He is undoubtedly the most simped-on character throughout all four seasons of his series. And for good reason. Kaneki, in my opinion, is one of the most conceptually complex characters in anime history. He’s someone who had gone through so much character development that he literally developed several distinct personalities just to cope with it!
8. Asuna Yuuki
Anime: Sword Art Online It’s no secret that harem anime often have the most intense waifu competitions. The classic “Waifu Wars”, as we call it. However, there’s one character that won her war resoundingly before it even began. I’m of course talking about Asuna Yuuki — the undisputed best girl of the SAO series. I mean seriously, it’s not even close! Say what you will about the series itself – but no one can deny that it gave us one of the sweetest anime romances ever in its first season, with Asuna as the lead heroine.
7. Itachi Uchiha
Anime: Naruto Itachi is one of the most tragic anime characters to have ever graced our presence. Which is exactly why he’s more than worthy of everyone’s admiration! Everything about his character is based on sacrifice. Which tells you just how upstanding and righteous this misunderstood hero really is. And did I mention that his choke-game is on point as well? Uh… just in case anyone’s curious, of course.
6. Todoroki Shoto
Anime: My Hero Academia Speaking of misunderstood cool guys… Here we have Todoroki Shoto — a sometimes distant yet kind-hearted boy with a chip on his shoulder. My Hero Academia has a lot of characters to simp for. But Todoroki pretty much takes the cake in terms of “cool-guy points” and overpowered points. Despite his reserved nature, he’s the type of character who would risk his career (and even his own life) just to make sure that his friends are safe. A classic tsundere, through and through!
5. Emilia and Rem
Anime: Re:Zero – Starting Life in Another World There’s just no way I could’ve listed these two by themselves. After all, I simp for both of them just because of how their characters developed as the anime went on. I mean, Emilia and Rem both have unique and endearing qualities to them. It makes picking a clear winner way too hard – and then we’d always have one left out. That’s no fair. These two are often been the subject of countless “best girl” forum wars. And if you’ve seen every episode of the anime so far, you’d know exactly why this is. And even though there can only be one winner, both of them are queens that deserve all the simping from us fans.
4. Levi Ackerman
Anime: Attack on Titan Introducing one of the most simped-on anime characters of all time: Levi Ackerman — slayer of titans and thirsty AOT fans alike. Attack on Titan fans aren’t strangers when it comes to simping in general (speaking from personal experience…) But when it comes to Levi? Some fans are prepared to take it to a whole different level. They have countless memes, AMVs, fanfics, and fanarts to show for it — all of which feature Levi about 70% more than other characters. Not that I’m saying any of this simping is misplaced, though. Levi is an awesome character, with one of the most badass fight scenes and interactions in the whole series.
3. Aqua
Anime: KonoSuba: God’s Blessing on This Wonderful World You may know Aqua as the punching bag of Kazuma’s party. But to me, she’s much more than just her usual antics. She’s not just a useless goddess. She’s the useless goddess, who can also be considered as the “heart” of her group. Sure Aqua gets too whack and lazy most of the time. But that’s what makes her character hilarious. What’s even more endearing is knowing that she actually cares about Kazuma as a friend, despite the condescending facade she often puts on for him. She might be useless. But at least she’s the “good” kind of useless!
2. Lelouch Lamperouge
Anime: Code Geass Lelouch is one of the most iconic characters around, and is certainly deserving of all the praise from fans. But why simp for him, you ask? Because he’s complex and multi-faceted (not to mention handsome) with one of the grandest motivations ever. He’s a good brother to Nunnally, a loyal friend to Suzaku, and for the most part, a great leader. And most of all, he’s a capable protagonist who not only achieved what he set out for, but also enacted one of the most iconic acts of self-sacrifice in anime history. No spoilers.
1. Zero Two
Anime: Darling in The Franxx Everybody needs a Human-Klaxosaur hybrid waifu in their lives. And Zero Two, being the undisputed best among all of them, is just about the most perfect anime girl you can ever hope to simp for. She might seem cold and a bit reserved at first glance. But she’s actually beyond over-protecting and loving towards the people she actually cares about. Moreover, Zero Two also knows the importance of choosing the greater good above all else — despite knowing full well what it would cost her in the end. But it isn’t just her looks and personality that make her totally simp-able. There’s also her willingness to do the right thing for the world that once hated and cursed her.
